tour CITY OF BORDEAUX

BORDEAUX, its history is very rich. It goes back as far as to 30 and 20 thousand years ago, when the area of Bordeaux was inhabited by the Neanderthal. The Neanderthal remains have been found in a famous cave known as Pair-non-Pair. The city flourished, primarily due to the wine trade.

In 1462, Bordeaux obtained a parliament but regained importance only in the 16th century when it became the centre of the distribution of sugar and slaves imported from the West Indies.

The 18 century was the golden age of Bordeaux. Victor Huge found the town so beautiful he once said: ”take Versailles, add Antwerp, and you have Bordeaux”.
